The Flower School offers courses in flower arranging and the essentials of the trade for business or pleasure. The Art of Floristry is an old tradition, we will explore both traditional and contemporary styles, with an emphasis on flowers looking natural. Each lesson consists of a demonstration by Amanda, followed by a workshop-style tutorial, where students create their own arrangements. This allows the student to master the techniques of the lesson, under the guidance of the tutor.
AMANDA MEADS
Amanda, a qualified Florist and Floral Tutor with more than 20 years' experience, started her training of 4 years, in New Zealand before furthering her career in Perth, Western Australia, managing a flower shop for two years.
On moving to the UK, Amanda made London her home for the next 12 years where she freelanced for leading florists on major events for Harrods and many functions for the "rich and famous" (for example, HRH Queen Elizabeth's 40th Anniversary, Elton John and Sarah Ferguson) in both London and the Continent. Amanda was flown to New York especially to arrange Christmas windows for Bergdorf Goodman in 1987 and was so highly regarded in her field, that she obtained many floristry commissions on her excellent reputation.
In London, Amanda opened her own shop, "Kowhai Flowers", and soon after, established her successful and popular "The Flower School of Kensington". In her return to New Zealand, Amanda established and managed a busy Central Auckland Flower Shop for eight years at the same time creating "The Flower School".
Amanda has now made Brisbane, Australia her home and continues to train students in her Australian-established "The Flower School", sharing her vast experience.
